SIXTEEN postmen bitten by dogs in Huddersfield in last year

Number of attacks "unacceptable" say Royal mail

Sixteen postmen and women were bitten by dogs in Huddersfield in the past 12 months.
News of the incidents emerged today in a new report.
The study shows the number of attacks by dogs on postal workers remains “unacceptable”, with over a third of incidents happening at the front door.
Around seven attacks a day are being reported across the UK, a fall of 10% over the past year, but incidents usually increase during the summer holidays, when dogs are more likely to be in the garden.
The Royal Mail launched its annual Dog Awareness Week with a survey showing that one in four dog owners admitted they had left their pet loose in the house when a front door was open.
In Huddersfield a Royal Mail spokesman said: “Dog attacks are a significant hazard, faced by postmen and women on a daily basis.
“Around 16 postmen and women were attacked across the HD postcode area by dogs from April 2015 to April 2016, down 11% on the previous year.
“Royal Mail is committed working with customers to drive this number down as every dog attack is one attack too many.”
In the past Huddersfield postman Jason Lee was savaged by a Bull Mastiff while delivering in Meltham.
